Nectar Collectors: Dabbing Made Easy

A nectar collector, also called a dab straw or honey straw, is a portable dabbing tool designed for vaporizing cannabis concentrates like wax and oil. Typically made from glass, silicone, or wood, it features a heated tip that touches the concentrate while the user inhales through a tube, delivering smooth and flavorful vapor.

Why Choose a Nectar Collector?

Both nectar collectors and traditional dab rigs are popular choices for consuming concentrates. Instead of filling a chamber like a dab rig, nectar collectors use a process referred to as “dipping”, where smokers simply heat the tip of the dab straw and dip it directly into the concentrate. If you’re looking for a more convenient option, a nectar collector offers several advantages. Here’s why you might choose one over a dab rig:

  • Portable and Compact - Lightweight and easy to carry, a nectar collector is perfect for on-the-go dabbing without the bulk of a full dab rig.
  • Heated Tip for Maximum Flavor - By heating the tip, concentrates vaporize instantly without combustion, preserving their full terpene profile.
  • Cost-Effective - Nectar collectors are typically a more budget-friendly option to enjoy concentrates. Also, users have precise control over concentrate consumption, minimizing waste.

Frequently Asked Questions

How to use a nectar collector

Using a nectar collector is a quick and efficient way to enjoy concentrates. Here’s a step-by-step guide to get the most out of your dabbing session.

  1. First, if your nectar collector has a water chamber, fill the body of it with water. Use just enough water to submerge the bottom of the straw body or percolator. You should see slight bubbles when inhaling, but the water should not splash into the mouthpiece.
  2. Prepare your concentrate on a heat-resistant dish, such as a silicone or glass container.
  3. Next, heat up the tip (either by a torch or by the built-in heating element, if you’re using an electric nectar collector). Make sure to roll the piece back and forth to heat evenly for approximately 30-60 seconds.
  4. Allow the tip to cool slightly for a few seconds.
  5. When ready, gently touch the tip of the nectar collector to the concentrate at a 45 degree angle and slowly inhale through the mouthpiece as the vapor forms.
  6. Let the tip completely cool before cleaning.

How to clean a nectar collector

1. Disassemble the Nectar Collector - Start by carefully separating the tip, straw body, and water chamber (if your model has one). If you are using an electric nectar collector, separate the battery or power base.

2. Remove Reclaim - Reclaim is the concentrate that has vaporized but condensed on the tip or straw. To get reclaim out of a nectar collector, follow these steps:

  • For the Tip: After cooling, use a cotton swab or small pipe cleaner soaked in isopropyl alcohol (90% or higher) to gently wipe the inside of the tip. You can also soak the tip in alcohol for a few minutes to loosen any reclaim buildup.
  • For the Body: If there is reclaim inside the straw body, soak it in isopropyl alcohol or a cleaning solution for about 15 to 20 minutes. Use a soft brush or pipe cleaner to scrub out any leftover reclaim. Be gentle to avoid scratching or damaging the straw.

3. Clean the Water Chamber - If your nectar collector has a water chamber, empty the old water and rinse it with warm water. If necessary, fill the chamber with isopropyl alcohol and shake it gently to loosen any residue.

4. Rinse with Warm Water - Thoroughly rinse every component with warm water to get rid of the alcohol and residue.

5. Dry and Reassemble

To clean a silicone nectar collector, use isopropyl alcohol or warm water to wipe the outside surface. Do not submerge the silicone parts in alcohol or water. If there is built up residue on the silicone pieces, you can throw it in the freezer to allow the residue to harden. Once fully hard, squish the piece and the residue should pop right off.

Can I boil my nectar collector to clean it?

Yes, boiling can help clean off tough residue—but only if it’s made of heat-safe materials like borosilicate glass or silicone. Boiling can be an effective method for loosening up stubborn reclaim, but it’s important to do it safely and correctly.

  • Make sure your nectar collector is made of the proper materials (avoid boiling wood or plastic parts).
  • There are no electronic components attached.
  • Avoid boiling if your piece is cracked or damaged
  • Bring the water to a gentle boil and allow the device to simmer.

What are the different types of nectar collectors?

Nectar collectors are available in a variety of materials and styles—each type offers unique features suited to your lifestyle, preferences, and dabbing routine.

Electric Nectar Collector

Also called e-nectar collector, is a battery-powered, handheld dab device used to vaporize wax, shatter, and oil. Unlike traditional nectar collectors that require a torch, electric versions feature a built-in heating element, allowing for quick and effortless dabbing without an open flame.

  • Built-in Heating Element & Rechargeable Battery – No torch required, heats up in seconds, and provides portability.
  • Precise Temperature Control – Adjustable heat settings let you choose between flavorful low-temp dabs or thick vapor clouds for maximum potency.
  • Minimal Mess & Waste – Dab directly from your concentrate jar or dab mat, reducing sticky tools, waste, and cleanup.

Glass Nectar Collector

A premium choice for concentrate enthusiasts who prioritize flavor and purity. It’s a compact and portable tool used to vaporize cannabis concentrates, made from high-quality heat-resistant borosilicate glass. Glass dab straws offer a clean, unaltered taste by preserving the full terpene profile of your concentrates. Glass designs also offer an elegant aesthetic, combining function and craftsmanship.

  • Pure Glass Construction for Clean Flavor – Borosilicate glass ensures no metallic or chemical aftertaste, keeping the vapor smooth and pure.
  • Portable & Handheld Design – Lightweight and compact, ideal for quick dabs at home or on the go.
  • Precise Dabbing Control with Less Waste – Touch the heated tip directly to your concentrate, vaporizing only what you need for a more efficient session.

Silicone Nectar Collector

A popular and practical type of dab straw designed for vaporizing cannabis concentrates, constructed from durable food-grade silicone. These collectors offer a flexible, heat-resistant, and virtually unbreakable alternative.

  • Built to Withstand Accidents - Since these collectors are constructed from flexible silicone, they are able to withstand drops, bends, and rough handling. It’s the perfect choice for clumsy hands or on-the-go sessions.
  • Easy to Clean - Silicone is non-stick and simple to clean. Many models can be taken apart or cleaned with isopropyl alcohol and warm water.
  • Customizable & Versatile - Many silicone nectar collectors come with interchangeable parts like glass or quartz tips, built-in concentrate containers, or even water filtration for a smoother hit.

Can you heat a nectar collector without a torch?

It depends on the type of nectar collector you are using. Traditional glass and silicone nectar collectors  require a torch to heat the tip, but electric nectar collectors use a built-in heating element. If you want a torch-free dabbing experience, we recommend choosing an electric nectar collector.
